Waterton Lakes National Park, part of the traditional territories for the Siksikaitsitapi (Blackfoot) and other Indigenous peoples, is nestled in the southwest corner of Alberta. The traditional Blackfoot name for Waterton Lakes is Paahtómahksikimi (BUCK-toe-MOCK-sick-ih-mee) meaning the inner sacred lake within the mountains. The smallest of the Rocky Mountain national parks, the rolling, golden prairies give way to rugged alpine landscapes abundant with an array of wildflowers and punctuated with crystal clear pristine lakes. It is no wonder the park is often referred to as a crown jewel.
