The plan for this trip to the Upper Midwest materialized out of the ashes of another trip to Jasper National Park which we decided to cancel with relatively short notice after a devastating wildfire tore through the park and the township in July 2024. After hopes of the park reopening faded and a feeling of not wanting to burden a community facing significant hardship, we pivoted our plans. Our time was split between the southern shores of Lake Superior, Michigan and Vilas County, Wisconsin where you can find one of the highest concentrations of freshwater lakes on Earth.
